What is the Teen Reader’s Choice Award?
Our annual Teen Reader’s Choice Award is a literary program designed for young adult readers. This is the eleventh year for our popular program that fosters the love of pleasure reading and encourages meaningful conversation about the chosen books. Designed to expose students to current, popular, high-quality young adult books, the TRCA promotes literacy and independent reading.
Research has shown that reading for pleasure exercises the imagination, advances literacy, develops social skills, improves one’s health and positively impacts learning outcomes. It is for these reasons that library staff is passionate about this program.
How are the books chosen?
Each year’s TRCA books are chosen by a committee comprised of CCRCE Library Services staff. The annual list of titles is carefully chosen based on the best critical reviews, readers’ reviews, and the books’ performances on well-respected awards lists. The titles for this year represent some of the best fiction and nonfiction published between January 2020 and December 2021.
Stayed tuned in the coming weeks to learn more about each book and every author. Remember to like, comment, and share. Voting will be by paper ballot in your school library and online at this blog.
